Megaport Cloud Router (MCR) is a managed virtual router service that enables direct networking between endpoints on the Megaport Network. MCR can be purchased as a standalone service to route traffic between different cloud environments without the customer having a physical presence in that data center. It can also be connected to customer Ports to route pertinent traffic back to a physical location.

MCR manages both static and dynamic routes, up to 10,000. These routing options are available for individual configuration of each sub-VLAN (C-Tag) on Q-in-Q capable connections.

Looking Glass

MCR Looking Glass provides single-screen visibility over your traffic routing.


You can enable Message Digest 5 (MD5) authentication between two eBGP neighbors to have MCR verify each segment sent on the connection between the neighbors.

Public IP Address Allocation

When ordering your MCR, public IP addresses are provided as needed, based on specific cloud service provider requirements.

Dynamic Routing

Dynamic routing propagates route table updates from your MCR across the Virtual Cross Connect (VXC) to the destination. MCR leverages the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) to provide flexible routing by exchanging routing information between peers.

  • Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD)
  • Multiple Exit Discriminator (MED)
  • BGP on/off toggle
  • Static routing
  • Autonomous system number support
  • NAT IP addresses
