New Megaport Virtual Edge Packages for Better Edge Networking

With our recent expansion of bandwidth options, there are now even more ways to customize your network and meet your business’ needs.

Back in April 2021, Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE) launched with the purpose of modernizing customer branch-to-cloud connectivity to improve network reliability, reduce provisioning time to minutes, and optimize connectivity costs. Originally launched on a pay-as-you-go (PAYG) model, MVE’s original offering was simple, with the option to provision small, medium, or large connections.

Now, after more than a year of transforming networking at the edge, MVE is growing. We’ve responded to your feedback to introduce new MVE options which will cater to even more use cases.

The new packages

Before, MVE customers could provision 500 Mbps of internet connectivity or more, both with 2 vCPU and 4 vCPU options – now, 20/100/200 Mbps are also available for both options. This expands our total MVE offering to the options shown below:

MVE PackagevCPURAMInternet Access (Mbps)*
MVE 2/4/2024GB20
MVE 4/8/2048GB20
MVE 2/4/10024GB100
MVE 4/8/20048GB200
MVE 2/4/50024GB500
MVE 4/8/100048GB1000
MVE 8/16/5000816GB5000
MVE 12/24/50001224GB5000

*redundant, symmetric with DDoS protection

Customers can also now bring their own internet connection in tandem with that offered through MVE, and have the ability to scale between 2 vCPUs and 12 vCPUs on-demand. Each package, no matter the bandwidth, will have enough storage allocated to run the required SD-WAN license.

But what does all of this mean for you?

The benefits

Run longer Proof of Concepts

For customers requiring a smaller bandwidth that can run for longer—for example, in a Proof of Concept (PoC)—our 20 Mbps options will almost always provide adequate bandwidth without overprovisioning, reducing costs and enabling PoCs to run for as long as required.

Manage internet costs

Does your business have an existing Internet Service Provider (ISP) agreement to fulfill? While MVE customers can use the included internet access as their main SD-WAN connectivity method, they can now also revert the included access to backup only, and instead bring their own internet connection as their main method. This will help customers get the most possible use out of their existing investments and enable them to better manage their costs with MVE.

Extend benefits to multicloud routing

All new bandwidth options can also be utilized for cloud-to-cloud routing and security. Direct traffic between your Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) over private circuits that can be provisioned in minutes via the Megaport Portal, with the same cost management benefits as your branch-to-cloud connections.

Stagger your network rollout

With the option to scale up compute from two to 12 cores and customize your internet access on-demand, MVE now supports a more staggered network rollout to cater to any digital transformation plan; simply scale up as you add more branches.

Get started

There are two options for getting started with MVE:

  • Don’t have a long-term digital transformation plan, or just want to give MVE a try? Provision and use MVE on-demand with a PAYG model for ultimate flexibility and control.
  • Have your digital transformation all mapped out? Order MVE on a contract length of your choice (12, 24, or 36 months) to receive cost discounts; the longer the contract, the greater the saving.

Whatever approach you choose, you can order and provision MVE in minutes. To learn more about these new options and receive a customized offer, get in touch with one of our sales experts to identify the best solution for your needs.
