Megaport Advanced Services: From Network Design to Deployment

Network changes often stall after the design is done. See how Megaport Advanced Services helps teams move from planning to implementation and support.
Ask a network team where their last big network change got stuck and you’ll rarely hear “we couldn’t work out the design.” The completed design is usually sitting in a document somewhere, reviewed and signed off.
What stalls is everything needed after that. Somebody has to write the runbook. Somebody has to sit in the 2 a.m. change window and cut traffic over. Somebody has to be on the call when a BGP session doesn’t come up the way it did in the lab. And that somebody is usually an engineer who’s also carrying three other projects and a spot on the on-call roster.
This is the concern we hear about most with network changes and upgrades — not a shortage of good ideas, but a shortage of hands. This is where Megaport Advanced Services becomes invaluable.
Where the time actually goes
Network as a Service removed a lot of the old friction. Nobody should be waiting weeks for a circuit anymore, and a port or cloud connection can be live within minutes. But fast provisioning doesn’t write a migration plan. The work that’s left is the human work: sequencing the changes, coordinating with cloud providers and data centers, testing, and handing over something the team can run confidently… and by the next morning.
In most organizations, that work ends up in one of a few places. The team absorbs it, and something else slips. Or a systems integrator comes in, which means another vendor to onboard, another contract to negotiate, and another party to brief on an environment they’ve never seen. Sometimes the project just waits.
Matching the help to the size of the job
Not every change needs the same kind of help, so Megaport’s Advanced Services come in three shapes.
1. When the design is done and it needs execution.
Configuration Assistance puts Megaport specialists on the implementation. You bring the architecture. They handle configuration, migration, and cutover across Megaport Ports, Megaport Cloud Router (MCR), Virtual Cross Connects (VXCs), Megaport Internet, Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE), and cloud on-ramps like AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, and Google Cloud Interconnect. It’s built for the moments where your change window is fixed and there’s no appetite for a second attempt.
Design work and configuring third-party software on MVE sit outside of Configuration Assistance.
2. When the project is bigger than a change window.
A WAN redesign, a data center consolidation, a move across clouds, several sites going live at once; that kind of work needs someone accountable from discovery to handover, and Project Services covers it under a single Statement of Work. It’s also the only tier that reaches beyond the network into compute and storage.
3. When the network is too important for a standard queue.
For organizations where Megaport carries critical traffic, Premium Support adds a named Technical Account Manager who knows your environment, priority response and routing when something breaks, and proactive planning ahead of high-risk changes. The value isn’t a quicker reply to a ticket, but having someone who already understands your setup before anything goes wrong, so the next big change is well planned.
What this looks like in practice
Here’s a common scenario. An infrastructure team has approved a plan to move its cloud connectivity off a set of aging circuits and onto Megaport, across two regions, before the contracted end date. The design is solid and the deadline isn’t moving. Two engineers know the environment well, and both are also supporting a security rollout.
If the change is well defined and the problem is mostly execution, that’s Configuration Assistance. If it has grown into a broader redesign with several sites and dependencies, it’s Project Services. And if this is the network the business runs on, the kind where a slow root-cause analysis becomes a leadership question, Premium Support means the next change is planned with someone who was there for the last one.
Getting started
Configuration Assistance and Project Services can be requested straight from the Megaport Portal. Choose the option to engage our Advanced Services team at checkout, or raise a request with our support team, and a Megaport specialist will get in touch to understand what you’re trying to do. For Premium Support, or if you’re not sure which fits, talk to your Megaport account team.
The design’s done. Let’s get it live.
