Introducing Megaport DDoS Protection: Built-In Network Resilience for Megaport Internet
This fabric-native shield delivers private, professional-grade resilience that is easily added via the Megaport Portal in under 60 seconds.
Megaport is evolving the connection. With the launch of Megaport DDoS Protection, we are securing the mission-critical Megaport Internet connection by filtering out malicious traffic before it ever reaches your platform. This fabric-native shield delivers private, professional-grade resilience that is easily added via the Megaport Portal in under 60 seconds, without the performance lag of security detours.
Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks are designed to overwhelm infrastructure with traffic, preventing legitimate users from reaching applications. As cloud environments have become more distributed, the impact of these attacks has grown. Availability, performance, and customer experience are all directly affected when network paths become congested or unavailable.
Traditional approaches to DDoS protection do not always align with how modern networks are built. Some rely on upstream providers, where protection may prioritize the stability of the carrier network rather than application availability. Others depend on external mitigation services, which can introduce additional routing, latency, and operational overhead at the point where stability matters most.
Megaport DDoS Protection takes a more direct approach by integrating mitigation into the platform itself.
Why DDoS protection needs to evolve
Cloud adoption has changed how applications are deployed and how traffic moves between users, services, and environments. Organizations are operating across multiple clouds, regions, and distributed architectures where consistent connectivity is critical.
At the same time, the risk profile has shifted. Traffic patterns are less predictable, attack volumes continue to grow, and downtime has a more immediate commercial impact. Even short disruptions can affect revenue, user trust, and service-level commitments.
However, most DDoS protection models have not kept pace.
Standard ISPs are designed to protect their own network first. When an attack occurs, the response can involve dropping or null-routing traffic entirely. This protects the carrier, but it can also take your services offline.
Over-the-top mitigation providers take a different approach, but introduce their own trade-offs. Traffic is redirected through external scrubbing centers over the public internet. This creates a security detour that adds latency, increases exposure, and complicates routing at the point where performance matters most.
Many providers also base pricing on attack volume, leading to an attack tax where costs increase during an incident, making it difficult to predict spend.
For organizations operating modern, distributed environments, this creates a gap between available protection and what is practical to deploy.
What Megaport DDoS Protection delivers
Megaport DDoS Protection provides Layer 3 and Layer 4 mitigation by identifying and filtering malicious traffic before it reaches your infrastructure.
Native mitigation within the Megaport fabric
Protection is delivered directly within the Megaport fabric. Traffic stays on its intended path, and mitigation happens in line with the connection.
When an attack targets a specific IP address, only that traffic is mitigated. The rest of your traffic continues to flow normally without interruption.
This allows you to maintain performance and availability without rerouting or taking entire connections offline.
Fast deployment and activation
DDoS Protection can be easily added on an existing Megaport Internet connection in under 60 seconds, enabling smarter protection almost instantly thereafter.
During setup, you select a protection profile that is pre-configured to distinguish between legitimate traffic surges and attack patterns. There is no need for manual rule tuning or specialist configuration.
Provisioning is handled through the Megaport Portal, allowing teams to enable protection quickly as part of their network setup.
Predictable, capacity-based pricing
The service aligns to the capacity of your Megaport Internet connection, providing a clear and consistent cost model.
There are no high entry thresholds to get started, and costs do not increase based on the size of an attack. This removes the unpredictability often associated with DDoS mitigation and allows organizations to plan with confidence.
How it works
Megaport DDoS Protection operates through two modes: Passive and Active.
Every connection starts in Passive mode by default. This allows you to observe traffic behavior without applying mitigation. It provides visibility and control while you validate how the service operates within your environment.
Active mode applies autonomous mitigation. Malicious traffic is redirected at the host level before it reaches your infrastructure, while legitimate traffic continues uninterrupted.
Because mitigation is targeted, only the affected IP address is scrubbed. The rest of your network traffic continues on its normal path without impact.
Configuration is handled through the Megaport Portal. You select your port, choose a protection profile, and set your preferred mode through a fully self-service workflow.
Built for environments where uptime matters
Megaport DDoS Protection is designed for organizations where network performance and availability are critical to operations.
This includes financial services and regulated industries that require strong resilience and compliance alignment. It also applies to SaaS platforms and digital services where latency and uptime directly affect user experience.
Retail, ticketing, and streaming businesses can use it to support high-traffic events where demand increases exposure to disruption. Cloud and network teams can apply it across distributed environments where consistent connectivity is essential.
Across these use cases, the requirement is consistent. Protect the connection that supports business-critical applications while maintaining performance.
