Hong Kong to Los Angeles, We’ve Got You Covered

Today we announced an international route between Hong Kong and Los Angeles, as well as additional capacity between Singapore and Hong Kong. From the perspective of an enterprise owner, this means that they will have access to on demand, scalable, international capacity. This is a total game changer when compared to the historical model.

Join your clouds. Amazon Web Services (AWS) has offered cross region connectivity in the past for customers utilizing direct connects. However, this has been limited to the geographic location (in many cases by continent) in the past. As Megaport has introduced scalable, elastic bandwidth in a transnational capacity, crossing these regions is now a possibility.

So what does this mean for enterprises?

For example, if you’re using AWS direct connects and were to have a port in Hong Kong, you can put a leg out to Singapore and to Los Angeles, and can now do disaster recovery in all three places. In the past this wasn’t possible due to geographic limitations, however with the implementation of the Megaport SDN through this new international capacity, customers are able to establish a high bandwidth, low latency connection within our 59 second provisioning time. Likewise, you could run a small amount of bandwidth to a remote location until such time that you need to burst in and raise it to production speed, all changes that can be made within the 59 seconds.

This is not the first time that we have enabled transnational capacity, but we are more than excited to be crossing the Pacific in this way. We’ve linked two of our key markets while helping our customers to create redundancy through easily reachable, secondary locations. We used our unique SDN to transform the original telecommunications model into something where customers can run their cloud connections autonomously, and with ease.

We look forward to continue mapping these connections across the globe and enabling a richer Megaport experience for all of our customers. In an increasingly globalized world, we are proud to continue working to make greater connectivity options for the Megaport community as it stands currently and for the future.
