Megaport Enables Fortinet Secure SD-WAN on Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE)

  • May 18, 2021

As one of the global leaders in security-driven networking, Fortinet makes perfect sense as our latest SD-WAN partner for Megaport Virtual Edge.

In late March, we announced the launch of Megaport Virtual Edge (MVE) , the Network Function Virtualization (NFV) hosting service we developed to allow customers to spin-up virtual networking devices on demand. As a vendor-neutral service provider, Megaport has always offered maximum flexibility and choice to our customers as they push to modernize their networks. That’s why today we’re announcing the enablement of Fortinet Secure SD-WAN on MVE .

With this announcement, we now have two of the global market leaders in SD-WAN enabled on MVE. Our customers will be able to host virtual instances of their Fortinet Secure SD-WAN appliances on MVE, and deploy branch-to-cloud connections to improve network connectivity at the edge in 21 metros worldwide.

About Fortinet Secure SD-WAN

Thousands of customers around the world have chosen Fortinet Secure SD-WAN to accelerate their digital innovation goals. Fortinet attributes this success to its security-driven networking approach allowing enterprises to combine SD-WAN and network firewall in one unified solution that is scalable across branch, campus, home, and multicloud deployments.

Going well beyond simply connecting branch offices to cloud services or the core network, Fortinet Secure SD-WAN runs natively in every major public cloud environment, scales to support large data centers, and is the only SD-WAN appliance suitable for harsh operational technology environments, and comes in a form factor small enough to fit on a home office desktop. This can ensure and enable a wide range of fast and secure connections from anywhere to anywhere, from the WAN Edge to the LAN Edge (SD-Branch), Home Edge, Operational Technology (OT) Edge, Data Center Edge, and Cloud Edge (SASE).

“As a Fabric-Ready Partner, Megaport is able to provide its customers a pre-validated joint solution that is integrated with Fortinet’s industry-leading Secure SD-WAN solution,” said John Maddison, EVP of Products and CMO at Fortinet. “Megaport is leveraging the simplicity and orchestration benefits of Fortinet’s SD-WAN solution to provide customers secure, seamless, and superior quality of user experience.”

Transforming edge networking

In the recent Forrester Analytics Global Business TechnographicsⓇ Network and Telecom Survey 2020, 82% of decision-makers said SD-WAN would be a top organizational priority in 2021 .

As an increasing number of enterprises adopt SD-WAN to improve their edge network connectivity in order to better serve their distributed customers, partners, and employees, enabling Fortinet Secure SD-WAN with MVE, in addition to our just-announced integration with Cisco SD-WAN , will give customers of these two leading SD-WAN providers the ability to reduce their network dependence on the unpredictable and less reliable public internet. SD-WAN traffic can ride Megaport’s global, private Software Defined Network (SDN) to applications in the cloud, optimising middle- and last-mile connectivity, drastically reducing egress fees, and improving network performance and reliability.

Not only will we continue to make MVE available to customers of other SD-WAN providers, but SD-WAN will be the first of several network functions that customers will be able to host on MVE and Megaport’s NaaS platform.

Stay tuned as we continue to help our customers transform their network edge.
